Weight Loss Basics
Weight loss happens when you burn more calories than you consume. But crash diets don't work long-term. The goal is a sustainable deficit of 300–500 calories/day, which leads to 0.3–0.5 kg loss per week.
Indian Diet Plan for Weight Loss
Early Morning (6–7 AM)
- 1 glass warm water with lemon (optional)
- 5 soaked almonds + 2 walnuts
Breakfast (8–9 AM)
- Option A: 2 moong dal chilla + mint chutney
- Option B: Oats upma with vegetables
- Option C: 2 eggs (boiled/scrambled) + 1 multigrain roti
Mid-Morning Snack (11 AM)
- 1 seasonal fruit (apple, guava, orange — avoid mango/banana in high quantities)
- Or 1 cup green tea
Lunch (1–2 PM)
- 1–2 rotis (wheat or jowar) + 1 cup dal + 1 cup sabzi + salad
- Or 1 cup brown rice + dal + sabzi
- Avoid: large portions of rice, fried items, pickles
Evening Snack (4–5 PM)
- Roasted chana or makhana (fox nuts)
- Or 1 cup buttermilk (chaas)
Dinner (7–8 PM)
- 1 roti + 1 cup vegetable soup + salad
- Or grilled/baked paneer 100g + vegetables
- Keep dinner light; avoid heavy carbs
Foods to Avoid
- Maida (refined flour) — white bread, biscuits, noodles
- Fried foods — samosa, pakora, puri
- Sugary drinks — cold drinks, packaged juices
- White rice in large portions
- Ultra-processed foods
Foods That Help
- High protein: Dal, eggs, paneer, chicken (for non-veg), tofu
- High fiber: Vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes
- Healthy fats: Nuts, seeds, avocado (small quantities)
Exercise
Diet alone works, but exercise improves results and overall health. Aim for 30–45 min of brisk walking daily + 2 days of strength training per week.
