About JEE (Joint Entrance Examination)

JEE Main is the gateway to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs. JEE Advanced (top 2.5 lakh from Main) selects students for IITs. Both test Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at a very high level.

Best Books for JEE Preparation

Physics

  • HC Verma — Concepts of Physics (Vol 1 & 2): Best for concept building
  • DC Pandey — for problem solving
  • Irodov — for JEE Advanced level (attempt only after thorough HC Verma)

Chemistry

  • NCERT Chemistry — mandatory; many JEE questions are directly from NCERT
  • Physical Chemistry: P. Bahadur or N. Avasthi
  • Organic Chemistry: MS Chauhan (named reactions, mechanisms)
  • Inorganic: NCERT + VK Jaiswal

Mathematics

  • RD Sharma — for Class 11–12 foundation
  • Cengage Mathematics — comprehensive problem bank
  • Arihant's 41 Years Chapterwise Papers — essential for pattern

Year-Wise Plan

Class 11 (Foundation Year)

  • Focus 80% on understanding concepts from NCERT + reference books
  • Solve exercise problems chapter by chapter
  • Don't rush — strong foundation in Class 11 chapters pays dividends
  • Chapters that matter: Mechanics, Chemical Bonding, Algebra, Coordinate Geometry

Class 12 (Application Year)

  • Complete Class 12 syllabus by September/October
  • Start full revision and chapter tests from October
  • Full mock tests from November onwards
  • JEE Main attempt in January; Advanced preparation February–May

Time Management

  • 8–10 hours/day: 3 subjects equally + revision
  • Weekly: complete 1 chapter fully with practice problems
  • Mock tests every 2 weeks from Class 12 start; weekly from January
  • Analyse every mock test — error log is crucial

JEE Main Exam Tips

  • Attempt easy questions first — don't get stuck on one question
  • In MCQs: eliminate wrong options if unsure (negative marking is -1 for 4 marks)
  • Numerical questions: no negative marking — attempt all
  • Target 80+ marks in Mock tests consistently before exam
