Frequently Asked Questions
A comfortable conversational pace for most recreational runners is 5:30-7:00 min/km (8:50-11:15 min/mile). Beginners often start at 8-10 min/km. Elite marathon runners maintain sub-3:00 min/km.
For a 4-hour marathon (42.2 km), you need a pace of 5:41 min/km (9:09 min/mile). For a sub-3 hour marathon, you need 4:15 min/km.
Divide 60 by your speed in km/h. For example, running at 10 km/h = 60/10 = 6:00 min/km.
A negative split means running the second half of a race faster than the first. It's the optimal race strategy as it conserves energy early and allows for a strong finish.
