Reading Speed Calculator

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. Reading speed is influenced by many factors including vocabulary, prior knowledge, and concentration. Proficient readers use saccades — rapid eye movements — to jump between fixation points rather than reading each word individually. With practice and proper techniques, anyone can significantly improve their reading speed while maintaining comprehension. The key is to reduce subvocalization, expand your visual span, and minimize regression — going back to re-read text you have already seen.
